1.Due to the strong oxidizing properties of ozone gas, it may not only cause damage to certain objects, but also pollute the environment, stimulate the respiratory system,and be harmful to human health. Application
An ozone destructor, also known as an ozone destroyer or catalytic ozone decomposition unit, plays a critical role in both water treatment plants and swimming pool systems to eliminate residual ozone from off‑gas streams before they are released into the atmosphere. In a typical swimming pool ozone installation, ozone is injected into the recirculating water to disinfect, oxidize organic contaminants, and reduce chlorine by‑products.
After the ozone contact tank, any un‑dissolved ozone gas must be removed from the headspace to prevent it from escaping into the pool hall or surrounding environment, where it could pose health risks due to its strong oxidizing and irritant properties. The ozone destructor achieves this by passing the off‑gas through a heated catalyst or a manganese dioxide/copper oxide bed that rapidly decomposes ozone back into oxygen.
Similarly, in drinking water or wastewater treatment, the destructor is installed at the exhaust of ozone contactors to ensure that no residual ozone is discharged, complying with occupational safety and environmental regulations. By reliably destroying leftover ozone, the device not only protects operators and bathers from respiratory irritation but also prevents corrosion of nearby equipment.
